| Master of Health Sciences in Clinical Leadership Solutions for Shaping the Future of Health Care website: clinical-leadership.mc.duke.edu Tomorrow's effective health care leaders must be able to grasp the complexities of the health care environment. They will have to understand the changing social environment, how emerging business trends can affect medicine and how communities can impact their residents' health and well being. The role of the clinical leader will evolve into being an expert in change management, team building and clinical excellence. Developing leaders for tomorrow's health care environment The dynamic health care environment requires health professionals to view issues through a myriad of perspectives, including business, finance, law, and public policy, and be able to design and administer systems that deliver quality clinical care. To develop such leaders, Duke's School of Medicine, in collaboration with the School of Nursing, Fuqua School of Business, School of Law and Terry Sanford Institute for Public Policy created the Master of Health Sciences in Clinical Leadership. The comprehensive curriculum includes: - Financial managementDesigned for clinicians, the innovative program blends health care with other disciplines to help students understand and be prepared to lead in the complex and changing health care environment. The goal of the program is to help health professionals from all disciplines become adept at working though the complicated issues facing health care. Since the program exposes students to a wide range of issues, graduates are better able to respond to changes, determine direction and solve problems within their organizations. Partnership, teamwork and effective communication are stressed in the program. Providing perspective for the effective leader The Clinical Leadership Program is a two-year, part-time course of study that allows professionals to remain in their job. The program incorporates traditional classroom learning with group projects and a longitudinal policy project that allows them to address a real problem or issue. Students progress through the program as an integrated interdisciplinary team. The curriculum covers an extensive range of topics applicable to rural, urban, small and large health care organizations. Classes are taught by Duke University faculty members who are leaders in the health care industry and recognized for their outstanding scholarship, teaching, research and practice. Offered in two options, on-campus or online distance-based, the program brings in a cadre of nationally recognized experts to augment classes and seminars. They are at the forefront in planning and implementing health care planning on the local, state and national level. A program for all health care professionals The Clinical Leadership Program is open to practicing health clinicians from all disciplines. Physicians, nurses, physician assistants, physical therapists are some examples of students who attend the program to gain business, legal, management and policy training. Prospective students need at least three years of professional experience. Candidates are accepted into the program on a rolling admission basis.
